Hydraform was founded in 1988 by Jochen Kofahl and Robert Plattner. The operation starting in a Garage.
The objective was to develop a cost effective building system for the developing world.
The building block is made of soil-cement (soil is readily available and cheap)
The blocks are of a high quality.
The block are interlocking and dry stacked for easy laying and leveling and saving mortar.
The machine to produce these blocks is mobile and affordable.
Hydraform operates a large block production plant suppling high quality blocks to the building industry.
In order to promote the use of Hydraform blocks for luxury housing we have started the development of luxury housing estates.

Products :
The HYDRAFORM building system replaces conventional bricks and mortar through the use of HYDRAFORM blocks, which are largely dry-stacked. The other components of the conventional building system remain unchanged. The blocks are manufactured by hydraulically compressing a soil-cement mixture in the HYDRAFORM blockmaking machine. Since the production of the first HYDRAFORM block in 1988, the design has become more sophisticated and the Efficiency and capacity of the HYDRAFORM blockmaking machine has been increased dramatically. Extensive strength, durability and stability tests have been carried out successfully by a number of recognised local and international institutions, which comply with South African national building regulations. HYDRAFORM building blocks are in use throughout South Africa as well as in Argentina, India, numerous African countries, Mexico and the United States of America. Their, use is predominantly in the construction of housing, schools, walls and general single and multi-storey buildings.
